One week until the Patch Sprint: my first goal race of the season. Time to taper! I've been shooting for 20-25 miles over the weekend, but will dial that back to about 15 this weekend. The Great Adirondack Trail Run course needed to be cleared of blowdown, so my friend Adam and I took the saws for a walk in the morning. A rugged 6mi hike complete with lots of tree throwing is good cross training, right? It took a while to get my energy back after 3hrs of trail work (and little sleep Friday night), but I felt good by the evening and got an easy 5mi run in on the Hulls Falls Loop. AM: 6mi hike plus trail work. PM: Hulls Falls, 5mi easy. My usual 8-10mi Saturday run wasn't in the cards due to the taper. This was the perfect workout one week away from an event. An easy run built up the weekly mileage without tiring the legs, and hiking got me more time on the feet with little impact. Total Miles: 5mi Weekly So Far: 41.5mi | |

Thanks Gilles! The GATR filled in 20 minutes and has a large waiting list. To get in next year call the Mountaineer at 8am on May 1st (or they might implement online registration--check mountaineer.com before May 2014).
