Sometimes you have a great confidence-building workout, where everything clicks and you know your fitness is right where it should be. My last two Sunday workouts on the Patch Sprint course are perfect examples: despite tired legs after peak training weeks I hit my splits perfectly and knew I was ready for race day. Today was the opposite. With less than a week to go until the race I'm feeling low-energy and slow. Maybe it was the humidity, or lack of sleep. Luckily it doesn't matter: today's workout has little bearing on how I'll perform in six days. I did finally find my legs. It took almost 4 miles to feel warmed up, but our 19 minute moderate/hard effort up Sugarloaf and a hard 8min push on the dirt road following the descent got the heart rate up and I found the spring in the step that I was missing early in the run.
